Bigger Donkfest Freeroll vs Low Buyin Rebuys?

CardsChat Poker Forum - 1 hour 23 min ago
Now i know there is different strategy in rebuys and when someone gos all in on a draw they can rebuy if they miss. I just find it interesting when people will constantly rebuy and in a sense need to final table to make money.

Where as freerolls there is no money put up so there isn't any to be loss. However once you are out you are out. Also many people on a gamble just trying to build a BR.

I see the rebuys as a bigger donk fest. Course as stated above when money is lost the bad beats suck that much more.

(Side note had two bad beats in two recent rebuys couldn't handle doing a rebuy due to becoming too tilted)

Best Looking Site?

CardsChat Poker Forum - 3 hours 20 min ago
I think Full tilt with there flash software is the best looking out there, then second comes pokerstars, and 3rd would be PKR, but in the past, before ftp & ps & pkr, the best looking was true poker!!! :D

anyone else agree? and if not, what do you think is the best top 3 looking poker sites online today ( or before )

PS: Scorepoker before they switch clients was sexy looking too, now its ugly : (

When to show hands?

CardsChat Poker Forum - 4 hours 11 min ago
I have been in a couple of situations lately, and was wondering what some of you think. It is always after I have been semi-bluffing/stealing blinds. Usually in late stage MTT or SnG. I had a couple of hands where everyone was checking or min-betting to me so I 4-5 BB bet/raise barreled into em and folded the table. The situation I mean is when I do this at least twice in a short period then get a real nutz hand, so I barrel into em again regardless of position, like AKh was one, KK was another. So I am thinking the table is fed up with me and my stealing days are over so I show the nutz, as if to say "hehe, I realy do have it" This is always after 2-3 times sucsessful stealing/semi bluffing. Good idea? Bad idea?

help w/ opponents range

CardsChat Poker Forum - 5 hours 20 min ago
Hello,

I'm starting to really try and study my opponents possible hand ranges (after the flop), but I need a basic idea of how to approach this. Like maybe a simplified way of thinking after flop activity that helps me narrow the possible hands down. I mean what should my thought process be at the flop, turn, and river. How do I narrow down their range? If they are calling my bets but not raising? If they are leading? etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Full Tilt Ring Game ?

CardsChat Poker Forum - 6 hours 6 min ago
I have not made a deposit but I have money in my account. I try to enter a ring game and it looks like it wants me to make a deposit. Is that the only way to get in a ring game is to make a deposit even if I have money in the account?

Online MTT starting chip stack

I am just starting a 900+ MT at PKR. Some people have large stacks of smaller denomination chips, and some have small stacks of large denomination chips. Is it this way anywhere else, and any idea why?

Minimum hand to call an all-in during the final table bubble

CardsChat Poker Forum - 8 hours 3 min ago
Hi all,

I just joined the forum. I hope I can improve my game through this forum.

I just played 10$ MTT on FTP (around 400 people).

I played pretty good poker. during the final table bubble (12 people left), I was considerably aggressive. In fact, when I was in the hijack, UTG+1 raised 3BB and 2 people before me called. Knowing that UTG+1 is a weak player, I put in an all-in squeeze with middle pair. All fold! And I am now the second chip leader with 72,000++ in chips. And several hands later, I got a situation:

Chips: 68,000++
Position: Button
Blinds: 1,500/3,000 with some antes.
Hand: JJ

All folded to me, looking at nice two Jacks. I put my standard 2.5BB raise. SB folds, BB shoved for 46,000.

What I was thinking:
- This guy wants to tell me that I cannot bully the table any longer! But he doesnt know that I hold a decent hand.
- his game is pretty good, so I put him on KQo, A9s, KK and everything in between. I didnt put him on AA since no way was he going to shove all his chips for 7,500 raise.
- I play for the 1st place (well, the final three is fine!). If I won this hand, then I am almost guaranteed to ship this tourney all the way.

What happened?? Running into QQ. No miraculous Jack. Got crippled and finally finished 12th.

Questions:
1. Should I fold my two Jacks in this spot? Considering I've been so agggressive and now holding decent hand..?

2. If I want to be aggressive during the final table bubble, and willing to take a coin flip, then what is the minimum hand to call an all-in?? What is the maximum chips you can afford to lose?

3. Anything, suggestions, critics are really appreciated!!

FullTilt Freerolls

CardsChat Poker Forum - 9 hours 21 min ago
It;s has been a very long time for me since i have played in any of there freeroll since they added more player to them. so yesterday i gave it a try i was playing in the 9,40 am freeroll and after sitting for over 5 1/2 hours only to be knockout in 49th place, talk about alot of play and nothing to show for it, it would be nice if they would cut the betting time to 10 seconds and make it a super turbo with that many player in them , it like they would have you put money into you account then to play the freerolls. anyone else feel the same way as i do?

Wanna move up the stakes!

CardsChat Poker Forum - 10 hours 46 min ago
Hello people!

I have been playing on Party now for some 7 months and feel I am finally ready to move up from 2NL to 4NL. The most I have deposited is $25 and my BR is approaching 100. I Feel that I am very comfortably stronger than 90% or Players I meet at 2NL though with the increased aggression I will face from players that are not TOTALLY clueless I am expecting it to be a shaky start.

Of course I will limit myself to a comfortable 4 tables, pay close attention to selection and generally try not to do anything to fancy untill I have settled in!

As a beginner I of course aspire to be a TAG and I have an idea of the numbers I should shoot for... 16/12.

As can be seen from my details sheet, I could be a little tighter and more aggressive. I think I know how I can work on this but what I am asking you guys is if you can spot any other points of note amongst to mass of figures?!

Specifically:

Filling the small blind%
Blind stealing%
went to showdown
Won $s at showdown
Aggression frequencies and factors

All in all I feel my game is coming along nicely and I am always surrounding myself with post-it notes of ideas, thoughts, reminders!

One of my favourite being "If you intend to call a probable raise then you are better to bet it all yourself. Then you taking control of the betting and gaining fold equity, giving yourself an extra chance to win!"

Any thoughts on how I can tweak my game before I move up?

Thanks in advance,

Frank.

EDIT:

I play 9 handed cashed games and the figures are for 90% 2NL and 10% 4NL (taken a couple of shots to test the waters)

Site Name: Same everywhere?

CardsChat Poker Forum - 11 hours 59 min ago
At the moment, I belong to 4 poker sites. I will slowly be expanding. I always use the same SN. I notice some players do this too, and some have different names on different sites. Is there any reason to use a different SN? I cant off the bat see any advantage - except for players who dominate me one one site being able to get me in the first few games on another and vice versa, but dont really see this as any lasting thing.
Thoughts?

Applying Renton's theorem

CardsChat Poker Forum - 14 hours 26 min ago
Something I've been trying to work on is not only putting opponents on ranges, but playing our ranges as well. This is a very simple hand where I'm making a marginal play with 87s, but I used to just give up on this type of flop, figuring someone hit this board with a weak ace.

Instead I think about my range here...I'm raising at CO so my range is presumably stronger than a button raise, even though this is a bluff. My opponents ranges: Caller is pretty tight and he didn't 3-bet, so his range on the button is largely pocket pairs, some KQ type stuff, some suited connectors, and the occasional suited ace. BB is loose and with a raise and caller, is getting odds to call with a wide range...again he didn't three-bet so we don't expect him to have a big ace or huge pair here very often. The board is very dry and hits my range a hell of a lot more than theirs.

Poker rules quiz

CardsChat Poker Forum - Tue, 03/09/2010 - 06:43
Ok so I made a short little quiz on some situations that can/have occured at the poker table, this is more for the live players not online. Now don't cheat and don't go into reasoning so others are not persuaded toward your answers. Just put the number of the question and what letter you think is right.

***OZ you can take this quiz but not post your answers as others will then know the correct answers :-)***

All these situations are for either tournament or cash game unless otherwise noted.

1.) Btn is seat 2. action goes seat 4 folds, seat 5 calls, seat 6 raises,
seat 7 says "I only have 1 card". Dealer should?

a. Call a misdeal
b. Give the player top card
c. Tell player hand is dead
d. Tell player hand is dead unless they want to play with 1 card

2.) Btn is seat 10. Seat 3 calls and says "I will call any raise!!", seat
4 folds, seat 5 calls, seat 6 goes all in, it folds around to seat 3
and he folds. Dealer should?

a. Allow seat 3 to fold
b. Tell seat 3 they must call as verbal is binding and play it out
c. seat 3 should have to call the raise and his cards are mucked

3.) Btn is seat 4. Seat 7 raises, seat 8 calls, all others fold. Flop
comes out, seat 7 bets, seat 8 then says "wait button is in wrong
seat, it should be in seat 3" all other players agree its in the
wrong seat. Dealer should?

a. Stop play give chips back to players and redeal with button is correct
spot.
b. Continue the hand and button goes to seat 5 next hand
c. Continue hand then put button in seat 3 next hand then seat 5 the
hand after that.

4.) Btn is seat 8. Seat 1 folds seat 2 calls folds around to btn who
calls, SB calls, BB checks. Flop comes out SB checks, BB checks,
seat 2 checks and dealer flips over turn. Btn says "I didn't check
but was going to so go ahead. Dealer should?

a. Leave the card since btn checked
b. Reshuffle only the turn card back in the deck then deal a new turn
c. Reshuffle the burn and turn back in the deck and redeal a new burn
and turn.

5.) Btn is seat 3. Seat 6 folds, seat 7 folds, seat 8 is thinking and
seat 9 says "raise" dealer says"its not on you" and seat 8 raises.
seat 9?

a. Must raise as verbal declaration is binding
b. Can raise,fold,or call
c. Can only call or fold for acting out of turn

6.) Btn is seat 5. Dealer is dealing and the second card to SB is
exposed due to dealer error and is the Ace of diamonds.
Dealer should?

a. Allow player to keep it if they want
b. Replace with the next card
c. Continue dealing and replace the card with what would be the burn
card and the Ace becomes the burn card
d. Redeal because the exposed card was dealt to the SB

7.) Btn is seat 2. action folds around to seat 8 who raises, folds to
Btn who calls and BB calls. Flop is out BB checks, seat 8 bets
all in. Seat 1 finds a card from the deck on the floor.
Dealer should?

a. Call the hand void and return the chips
b. Reshuffle the card back in the deck and continue play
c. Continue the hand and treat the card as a dead card

8.) Btn is seat 5. Seat 8 raises to $10 (in a cash game) or riases to
$200 (in tournament). Seat 9 throws out a $25 chip (in cash gm)
$1000 chip (in tournament). Dealer should?

a. Announce "Raise" from seat 9
b. Announce "call" from seat 9
c. Ask seat 9 if they are raising
